INDUSTRY SELLER GUIDE

Sell your electrical business in Oklahoma City.

Buyers will look beyond a full job calendar to the quality of the backlog, estimating discipline and licensed team. Show how service work, tenant improvements and construction projects each contribute to earnings.

LOOK THROUGH A BUYER’S EYES

What makes your business understandable—and transferable?

A buyer needs to see how the business produces cash, what resources it needs and what changes when you leave. These are the operating details to bring into the conversation.

01

Gross profit by service, commercial project and residential project

02

Contract backlog, percentage complete and remaining costs

03

Licensed workforce, utilization and subcontractor dependence

04

Retainage, receivables aging and largest customer exposure

BEFORE YOU GO TO MARKET

Preparation that makes diligence easier.

  • Prepare a job-by-job work-in-progress schedule.
  • Reconcile change orders and identify unapproved amounts.
  • Document estimating assumptions, job costing and safety procedures.
  • Confirm licensing, bonding and insurance continuity with the appropriate parties.

PREPARE YOUR ANSWERS

Questions a serious buyer may ask.

01

Who can estimate and supervise work after the owner leaves?

02

Which contracts need customer consent to an ownership change?

03

Does the backlog generate cash or require substantial upfront funding?

Support your answers with records and procedures where possible. Keep customer identities and detailed financials out of public listings; disclose them through an appropriate confidentiality process.

AVOID PREVENTABLE SURPRISES

Details that can slow down a sale.

  • Counting unsigned proposals as contracted backlog
  • Missing losses on partially completed projects
  • Assuming a buyer can inherit the seller's qualifying license

If property, leases, permits or professional licenses are involved, identify consent and transfer requirements early. Ownership changes do not automatically transfer every approval.
